Vegan, Gluten-Free Dog Birthday Cake Recipe

I made my dog a birthday cake! And threw him a birthday party! I know it’s extra as hell but he was turning one and he’s my life so I had to.

Right before I put the cake in the oven. 🙂

I made a vlog of the whole cake making experience, which you can see here:

The cake is vegan and gluten-free because my dog has a sensitive stomach, but also because this is just the healthiest kind of cake you can make for a pup!

VEGAN, GF DOG BIRTHDAY CAKE

(inspired by the guidelines here: http://www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-food/how-to-make-your-dog-a-rockin-birthday-cake/)

Makes four big dog pieces

CAKE:

1 cup brown rice flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup canned pumpkin

1 cup applesauce

1/4 cup ground flax seed, mixed with 3/4 cup water to make flax eggs

1/4 cup natural creamy peanut butter

1 tbsp maple syrup

1/2 tsp cinnamon

FROSTING:

1/4 cup natural creamy peanut butter

1/4 cup non-dairy milk

3 dates

Mix all your dry ingredients together, then mix in the wet ingredients. Should mix easily, with a medium-thick consistency. Put into a baking pan (greased with coconut oil) and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Let cool. Blend frosting ingredients together in a blender – a more high-powered blender will result in a smoother, fluffier frosting. Spread frosting on top of the cake. Decorate with dog treats if you want. Serve, and watch your dog wolf it down in two seconds flat!

Otis and his BFF Riley eagerly awaiting their cake. Otis even knows the word “cake” now, and that song “happy birthday” means he gets cake!
